Military Recruiters Out of Our Schools!

We demand AOC & Espaillat Stop Supporting Military Recruitment!

On March 19, 2023, organizers with Bronx Anti-War Coalition learned that the following day, US congress members Adriano Espaillat and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would be participating in a high school student services fair that promotes the military academies such as West Point. As this is in direct contradiction to AOC’s campaign promises to protest military recruitment, we called for an emergency action. Concerned parents, teachers, veterans, and Bronx community members came out to demand military recruiters out of our schools! You can watch the news coverage on Democracy Now here.

South Bronx Community Discussion:

Honoring MLK’s Anti-War Legacy

On MLK-Day weekend, BxAWC hosted a community discussion that focused on MLK’s anti-war, anti-imperialist, and anti-capitalist positions (which have conveniently been left out of history books). Together, we studied excerpts from his speeches, including his famous “Beyond Vietnam — A Time to Break Silence” speech he delivered at Riverside Church in Harlem in 1967. We will connect these themes to the military’s recruitment of youth in the South Bronx. A mix of both newcomers and experienced activists from Harlem and the Bronx attended, all committed to building the Bronx Anti-war movement.
